Position Overview:
The Computer Network Architect at Chimera Rocket Labs will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing network architectures to support the communication systems for space missions. This includes mission control centers, spacecraft communication, data transmission, and ground control networks. You will work alongside other engineers to ensure that the networks are secure, scalable, reliable, and meet the high standards required for space operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and architect network systems to support mission-critical communication for space exploration, including launch vehicles, spacecraft, mission control, and ground operations.
- Develop and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance network infrastructures for both internal and external communication systems.
- Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, and mission planners to ensure network architecture meets the needs of aerospace systems and supports real-time data transmission.
- Implement robust network security protocols to protect sensitive data transmitted during space missions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct performance analysis and optimization of existing network systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and speed.
- Manage the integration of network systems with other mission-related technologies, including satellite communication, ground-based systems, and cloud-based services.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring minimal disruption to mission-critical operations.
- Plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, and expansions while ensuring continuous service availability.
- Develop and document network architecture designs, configurations, and procedures for system integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network infrastructure aligns with organizational goals and mission requirements.
- Stay up to date with the latest networking technologies, protocols, and best practices to ensure Chimera Rocket Labs remains at the cutting edge of aerospace communications.
- Lead or support the development of disaster recovery and backup strategies for network systems.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of network hardware and software tools required to support the organization’s needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing complex network systems.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, etc.) and technologies used in large-scale networks.
- Experience with network security practices, including encryption, firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems, and network segmentation.
- Familiarity with cloud-based networking, including cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and the integration of cloud and on-premise networks.
- Experience with software-defined networking (SDN), network automation, and network orchestration tools is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Strong understanding of satellite communication systems and ground control network architectures for space missions is desirable.
- Experience with high-availability network systems and disaster recovery protocols.
- Proficiency in network performance monitoring, diagnostic tools, and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, software developers, and leadership.
- Ability to work independently in a remote work environment, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
