Position Overview:
The Mission Integration Software Engineer at Chimera Rocket Labs will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating software solutions that support complex space missions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including aerospace engineers, system architects, and mission planners, to ensure seamless integration of software across various mission systems and subsystems. The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering skills, a deep understanding of mission requirements, and a passion for space exploration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and integrate software systems that support space missions, ensuring seamless communication and functionality between mission subsystems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand mission requirements and translate them into software integration solutions.
- Develop software interfaces and protocols to integrate various mission components, including payload systems, launch vehicles, communication systems, and ground control systems.
- Ensure that software solutions meet the performance, reliability, and safety standards required for space missions.
- Work with system architects to design scalable and robust software architectures that support the full mission lifecycle.
- Conduct rigorous software testing, including integration testing, system testing, and simulation-based testing, to ensure that all systems perform correctly in mission environments.
- Participate in system-level troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization to resolve integration issues.
- Provide ongoing support and enhancements to mission software throughout the mission lifecycle, including post-launch troubleshooting and system updates.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for software interfaces, integration procedures, and system configurations.
- Collaborate with other software engineers, hardware engineers, and mission planners to ensure end-to-end system integration and smooth operation.
- Assist in the development of mission-specific simulation tools to test mission software and validate its functionality in real-world scenarios.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in software development, aerospace technology, and mission systems integration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in software development or integration, preferably in aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical industries.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or similar.
- Strong understanding of software integration principles, including the development of software interfaces, protocols, and data communication.
- Experience with mission control software, embedded systems, and real-time operating systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with software engineering tools, such as version control (e.g., Git), build systems, and debugging tools.
- Knowledge of aerospace systems, including launch vehicles, spacecraft, or ground control systems, is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex software integration issues.
- Experience with simulation and modeling tools for mission systems integration is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote, distributed team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
