As part of our ongoing growth, we are looking for a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join our remote team and help maintain and optimize the databases that power critical aerospace systems.

Position Overview:
As a Database Administrator at Chimera Rocket Labs, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing the company’s databases to ensure the availability, security, and integrity of mission-critical data. You will work closely with developers, engineers, and other team members to ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and processing. The ideal candidate will have experience with both relational and non-relational databases, database performance tuning, and data security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) for mission-critical aerospace applications.
  • Design and implement efficient database schemas, structures, and indexes to optimize performance and storage.
  • Monitor database performance and implement optimization techniques, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of databases, including setting up backups, replication, and high availability configurations.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect sensitive data, including encryption, access controls, and compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, GDPR).
  • Collaborate with developers to design and optimize database queries and support application development.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks, corruption, and connectivity problems.
  • Manage database migrations, updates, and upgrades, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Implement data backup and recovery strategies to ensure data protection and business continuity.
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including health checks, patching, and monitoring.
  • Ensure that database systems comply with regulatory requirements for aerospace systems and other relevant standards.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in data storage, architecture, and data flow processes.
  • Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for internal use and compliance purposes.
  • Stay up to date with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices to improve database performance and security.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong understanding of relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization.
  • Experience with database security practices, including encryption, user access controls, and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of database backup and recovery techniques, replication, and clustering.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based databases and database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Experience with performance monitoring tools and database tuning techniques.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, and data integration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A passion for space exploration and contributing to the development of technologies that support space missions.
  • Familiarity with aerospace systems or mission-critical applications is a plus.
