This role involves utilizing advanced design software, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that designs meet rigorous performance, safety, and cost requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, particularly within high-performance and high-reliability environments like aerospace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical components and systems for space vehicles, propulsion systems, and other aerospace technologies.
- Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines (e.g., electrical, systems, and structural engineers) to ensure integrated and functional designs.
- Use CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) to create 3D models and technical drawings of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Conduct mechanical simulations and analysis (using FEA, CFD, or other simulation tools) to validate design performance under real-world conditions.
- Ensure designs meet stringent safety, environmental, and performance standards specific to aerospace systems.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, assembly, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-performance standards.
- Perform detailed analysis of materials, tolerances, and mechanical properties to determine appropriate materials and fabrication techniques.
- Prepare design documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and testing procedures.
- Collaborate with the testing and validation teams to ensure that prototypes and final products meet design criteria and operational requirements.
- Provide technical support during the manufacturing and assembly phases, ensuring adherence to design specifications.
- Stay updated on the latest trends, materials, and technologies in mechanical design and aerospace engineering to apply innovative solutions to projects.
- Participate in design reviews, providing clear and concise explanations of your design rationale and responding to feedback from team members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues during the product lifecycle, from prototyping to testing and production.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on aerospace or high-tech industries.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) and engineering design tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, material science, and mechanical properties.
- Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) for design validation and optimization.
- Experience designing components for high-performance, mission-critical applications, particularly in aerospace or defense.
- Familiarity with aerospace standards and certifications (e.g., AS9100, ISO, and other quality control standards).
- Ability to perform and interpret engineering calculations, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and fatigue analysis.
- Knowledge of material selection processes and the ability to assess materials for strength, weight, and durability in aerospace applications.
- Experience in the full product development lifecycle, from concept through to production and testing.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication skills to clearly present designs and collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration with the team.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing (3D printing), machining, and injection molding, is a plus.
- Knowledge of space vehicle design, propulsion systems, or related aerospace systems is a plus.
