Position Overview:
The Machine Learning Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models and algorithms to optimize various systems across our aerospace projects. This role will involve working on complex, real-time data analysis, predictive modeling, and decision support systems that are integral to space missions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in machine learning, data science, and software engineering, with a passion for leveraging AI to solve challenging problems in space exploration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms to support various aerospace applications, including real-time data analysis, automation, and optimization.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, software development, systems engineering) to integrate ML models into larger systems and workflows.
- Analyze large and complex datasets, identifying patterns and insights that drive the development of new features or systems.
- Implement predictive modeling, anomaly detection, and optimization algorithms to enhance the performance of mission-critical systems.
- Develop, test, and iterate on algorithms to improve accuracy, speed, and reliability in space missions and aerospace systems.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and domain experts to identify business problems and design AI solutions that align with mission goals.
- Optimize ML models for deployment, ensuring scalability and efficiency in a cloud-based or embedded environment.
- Research and stay up-to-date on the latest machine learning advancements, incorporating state-of-the-art techniques into projects.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of machine learning models, algorithms, and processes for knowledge sharing and scalability.
- Perform regular model validation and testing to ensure reliability and robustness in real-world mission environments.
- Troubleshoot and debug ML models, conducting root-cause analysis to resolve any performance or accuracy issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in machine learning or data science, with a focus on developing, deploying, and maintaining ML models.
- Strong programming skills in Python (preferred), C++, or other relevant languages, with experience using ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
- Expertise in machine learning algorithms such as classification, regression, clustering, reinforcement learning, and neural networks.
- Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and working with structured and unstructured datasets (e.g., image, sensor, time-series data).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and deploying ML models in production environments.
- Experience with version control tools like Git, and with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data wrangling techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-functional team environment.
- Strong communication skills to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
