Position Overview:
The Laser Engineer will design, develop, and optimize laser systems for a variety of aerospace applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of laser technologies into Chimera Rocket Labs’ projects. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop laser systems for applications such as propulsion, communication, and sensing.
  • Perform simulations and calculations to optimize laser performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct experiments to characterize and validate laser systems, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and optical engineers to integrate lasers into larger systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to laser systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports.
  • Stay updated on advancements in laser technology and recommend innovative solutions for aerospace applications.
  • Ensure all systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in laser system design and development, preferably in aerospace or related industries.
  • Proficiency in laser design tools and software, such as Zemax, Lumerical, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of laser physics, optical components, and beam control systems.
  • Experience with hands-on laser assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with system integration and real-world deployment of laser technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities in a remote work environment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace systems and environmental requirements is a plus.
