Position Overview:
The Cloud Operations Engineer will be responsible for managing and optimizing our cloud infrastructure, ensuring it supports the demanding needs of our aerospace systems. This position involves monitoring, automating, and securing cloud environments to support mission-critical applications, data storage, and analysis. You will work closely with software engineers, data scientists, and other technical teams to ensure that our cloud systems are high-performing, secure, and cost-efficient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Monitor the performance and health of cloud-based applications and infrastructure, ensuring availability and reliability.
- Implement automation tools and scripts to streamline cloud operations, including provisioning, monitoring, and scaling of resources.
- Ensure security best practices are followed across cloud environments, including data encryption, access control, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., NIST, SOC 2).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define cloud architecture requirements and optimize performance for mission-critical applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues, working to minimize downtime and disruptions.
- Perform regular backup and disaster recovery tests to ensure business continuity in case of cloud service failures.
- Manage cloud cost optimization strategies, ensuring that cloud resource usage aligns with project budgets and efficiency goals.
- Stay current with the latest trends and best practices in cloud technologies, bringing innovative solutions to the team.
- Document cloud architecture, configuration, and operational processes for future reference and team training.
- Assist in the deployment and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure management, preferably in a DevOps or cloud operations role.
- Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and networking components.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and cloud management.
- Strong understanding of cloud security practices, including IAM, encryption, and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or CircleCI.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch) for performance tracking and troubleshooting.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure and networking issues with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architecture is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with distributed teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to resolving issues.
