Position Overview:
The Data Migration Specialist will be responsible for planning, executing, and validating the transfer of data from legacy systems to modern platforms. This includes analyzing data structures, cleansing and transforming data, and resolving migration-related issues. The ideal candidate is experienced in data migration processes, understands data governance, and can work effectively in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement data migration strategies to ensure the accurate and efficient transfer of data across systems.
- Collaborate with IT, engineering, and business teams to understand data migration requirements and develop appropriate solutions.
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data using tools such as SQL, Python, or specialized ETL software.
- Conduct data mapping and cleansing activities to ensure data integrity and consistency in the target systems.
- Perform rigorous testing and validation of migrated data to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors.
- Document data migration processes, including data structures, mapping rules, and transformation logic.
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues during the migration process to ensure a seamless transition.
- Develop and maintain data governance policies to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Provide post-migration support and training to stakeholders as needed.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging tools for data migration and integration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in data migration, ETL processes, or data integration projects.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
- Familiarity with data migration tools such as Informatica, Talend, or similar platforms.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) for data transformation and automation.
- Understanding of data modeling, mapping, and governance principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a remote work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in cloud-based data migration (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with aerospace or manufacturing data structures is a plus.
- Knowledge of APIs and data integration with third-party systems.
