Position Overview:
The Ground Systems Intern will assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of ground systems and support technologies critical to our space missions. These systems are responsible for managing the rocket launch, mission control, telemetry, and various ground operations. As an intern, you will work alongside our engineering teams, learning about aerospace technologies while contributing to real-world projects that support the operational side of space exploration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, development, and optimization of ground support systems for space missions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that ground systems are integrated effectively with spacecraft, launch vehicles, and mission control operations.
- Help with testing and validation of hardware and software components used in ground systems.
- Assist in the setup and troubleshooting of ground equipment, including telemetry systems, launch pads, and communication infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of real-time data monitoring and telemetry systems for launch operations.
- Support the analysis and visualization of ground systems performance data to improve operational efficiency.
- Assist with system documentation, including technical specifications, user manuals, and process guides.
- Provide support for software tools and scripts used to automate or enhance ground operations.
- Work closely with the engineering team to help streamline the development and deployment of systems for future space missions.
- Participate in ground system testing, troubleshooting, and data collection during mock launches or other operational simulations.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and systems, particularly in aerospace applications.
- Familiarity with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, MATLAB) to automate tasks or analyze data.
- Experience or coursework in ground systems, control systems, or mission control operations is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of hardware components used in ground systems, such as telemetry, sensors, or communication infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively in a remote environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Interest in space technology, aerospace systems, and the operational aspects of space exploration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with space mission operations or launch systems is a plus.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and database management systems is a bonus.
- Exposure to version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
- Understanding of real-time data systems and telemetry is a bonus.
