Position Overview:
As a Thermo-Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing systems that operate in extreme thermal and mechanical environments. Your work will be critical to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of components and systems used in rocket propulsion, spacecraft, and ground support operations. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to address complex engineering challenges and innovate in the field of aerospace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thermal and structural analysis of rocket components and systems using advanced simulation tools.
  • Design and optimize systems for thermal management, including heat exchangers, insulation, and cooling mechanisms.
  • Analyze materials for thermal and mechanical suitability, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Develop models to simulate thermal stresses, mechanical loads, and fatigue behavior in high-temperature environments.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, structural, and systems engineering teams to integrate thermal and mechanical solutions into overall designs.
  • Provide input for material selection and manufacturing processes to ensure durability and performance.
  • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) for thermal and mechanical systems to improve reliability.
  • Develop and validate test plans for thermo-mechanical components and subsystems.
  • Analyze test data to verify performance and refine designs as needed.
  • Document designs, analysis, and test results to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance with project requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of thermal and mechanical engineering principles, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and stress analysis.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL for thermal and structural analysis.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo) for design purposes.
  • Familiarity with materials science, particularly high-temperature and lightweight materials used in aerospace applications.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing, for thermo-mechanical components.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the aerospace or space exploration industry.
  • Familiarity with rocket propulsion systems and related thermal and mechanical challenges.
  • Hands-on experience with thermal testing and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations for aerospace systems.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and scripting.
