This role will be essential in ensuring that our software products meet the performance, security, and functionality standards required for space exploration.
Position Overview:
The Software Test Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and executing tests for the software applications developed by Chimera Rocket Labs. This includes developing automated and manual tests, identifying bugs and defects, and working closely with software developers to ensure that products are thoroughly tested and meet the necessary quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in testing complex systems, a strong understanding of software testing methodologies, and a passion for contributing to mission-critical applications in aerospace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on software requirements and system specifications.
- Perform manual and automated testing of software applications, including functional, regression, integration, performance, and security testing.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using relevant programming languages and testing frameworks (e.g., Python, Java, Selenium, TestNG, etc.).
- Identify, track, and report bugs, defects, and issues using issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla).
- Work closely with developers, product managers, and other team members to understand requirements and provide feedback on potential software issues and improvements.
- Participate in code reviews and design discussions to ensure testability and quality standards are met.
- Perform performance testing and optimization to ensure software products function optimally under various conditions.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of continuous integration (CI) and continuous testing (CT) processes to improve test automation and efficiency.
- Create detailed test reports and document test results, providing clear communication of defects and issues to development teams.
- Perform risk analysis and contribute to project planning, providing estimates for testing efforts.
- Stay up to date with new testing methodologies, tools, and best practices to improve the software testing process.
- Ensure software complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements for aerospace applications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience as a software test engineer, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability industries.
- Strong experience with test automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or similar.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, C++, or similar for writing test scripts.
- Experience with software testing tools for performance, load, and security testing (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner, Burp Suite).
- Solid understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with version control systems like Git or SVN.
- Familiarity with databases and the ability to write complex SQL queries for data validation and verification.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to track down and resolve software issues efficiently.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional, regression, system, and acceptance testing.
- Experience in testing embedded systems or real-time applications is a plus.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with developers and other stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on ensuring the highest quality standards.
- Experience with test case management and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Bugzilla).
- Knowledge of aerospace standards and regulations (e.g., DO-178C, ISO 9001, AS9100) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration with team members.
