Position Overview:
As a Computer Programmer at Chimera Rocket Labs, you will be responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining high-performance software for aerospace systems. Your work will be critical in ensuring that software applications support the performance, safety, and functionality of space technology. You will work closely with engineers and other software developers to create innovative, reliable, and efficient code that powers the systems integral to space exploration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications and tools for aerospace systems, ensuring they meet functional and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate software solutions with mechanical, electrical, and systems hardware in space exploration technology.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or similar.
  • Conduct thorough unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure software works as intended and resolves any defects or issues.
  • Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other developers to improve software quality and development practices.
  • Develop and maintain software documentation, including design specifications, code comments, and user manuals.
  • Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Implement and maintain automated testing tools to ensure continuous integration and delivery of quality software.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to define and execute test cases and resolve software bugs.
  • Contribute to the overall system architecture by designing scalable and reliable software solutions.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in software development and aerospace engineering to continuously improve software solutions.
  • Provide support for the maintenance and upgrading of software systems throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as a computer programmer, ideally in high-performance, mission-critical applications (aerospace, automotive, defense, etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or similar.
  • Familiarity with software development tools such as Git, version control systems, and integrated development environments (IDEs).
  • Experience in developing software for embedded systems or real-time applications is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns.
  • Experience with software testing tools and frameworks for unit, integration, and system testing.
  • Knowledge of software architecture, including designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
  • Experience in writing clear, concise documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, especially in a remote working environment.
  • A passion for technology and space exploration with a desire to contribute to innovative projects.
  • Familiarity with aerospace or space exploration software applications is a plus.
